| This is my lifeline of noticeable spots on my life's journey. I'll keep it too short and occasionally updated.
My parents were each liked by everyone who met them.
My dad Glen "the Swede" (young, big and strong) and mother Alice "the pistol" (one who would often surprise you.)
They probably met because mom was a volunteer entertainer while dad was here in the army in the early 1940's.
I remember being raised near the east end of Boulder, Colorado next to grandpa and grandma Giggey.
I played outdoors, at the creek running thru our block; and chess on the front porch with neighbor Jay.
I liked walking to Whittler grade school where I met my long time best friend Bob Baker.
I still owe an apology to Robby MacLarren the son of family friends only 1 1/2 blocks away.
But we never saw each other after I grew up and figured out that an apology was appropriate
for pushing him into a mud puddle at school because he was proudly wearing his new cub scout uniform.
But I probably was spanked and forced to apologize, which would not have been close to justice --
which is why it made as big an impression on me as it did on him.
So, if anybody meets Robby, please tell him I am sorry and I won't do it again.
My dad walked to work west of downtown saving his money for his first car.
He was taught to avoid paying interest by his immigrant parents
at their family farm in Minnesota. So he paid cash for a brand new Plymouth
and took us on weekend trips throughout the mountains and around --
even a visit to his big family in Minnesota.
But I digress and I apologize for that.
I held hands with Nina at the school newsreels. And started riding a bike to school.
The best part was no longer sports and recess, after I got to my 6th grade math class.
Then I graduated to Casey Junior High, the extra mile made the bike a real asset.
We had more sports and more interesting classes at Casey, but the best part was Beto.
No, not the fake Beto now in national politics -- Beto Diaz was a new immigrant years older
and a foot taller than the rest of us. Beto was too big and strong to play sports with us;
but we got together on the football field some weekend evenings as he was legal to buy beer.
Yes I played all the sports and was smart enough to qualify for all the advanced classes.
I also played the violin for several years. I liked the orchestra and even took private lessons
1/2 mile west of Casey -- up on top of Mapleton hill -- a good bike ride when holding a violin case.
That also was my introduction to the mansions on the other side of town.
First Update
High School was a grand adventure -- that's where we have the opportunity to complete our physical growth.
Please forgive me if I say it's due to the hore moans of puberty.
College or trade school can follow to allow the brain to mature. My experience was a grander adventure.
Of course there were some hiccups at the end -- if I get some extra time I'll get back to those later.
Our brain growth completes around 25 years old.
Changes occurring between ages 18 and 25 are essentially a continued process of brain development that started during puberty. When you’re 18, you’re roughly halfway through the entire stage of development. The prefrontal cortex doesn’t have nearly the functional capacity at age 18 as it does at 25. Don't miss these 2 growth day events before deciding who you are -- ignore the teachers advice and the activists teachings until you are yourself.
This means that younger people may have major struggles with impulsive decisions and planning behavior to reach a goal. The brain’s reward system tends to reach a high level of activation during puberty, then gradually drifts back to normal activation when a person reaches roughly the age of 25. Adults over the age of 25 tend to feel less sensitive to the influence of peer pressure and have a much easier time handling it.
Excuse my extended factual explanations -- it's just a phase we are in now.
Today at 79 I can see our spiritual growth never ends; and is the best place to invest your attention.
Before I get to the good stuff; I'll leave you with a link to the regular updates on my blog which has 2 advantages:
